Apple 0, Everyone Else 1

Apple 0, Everyone Else 1

If there’s one thing that’s true in the technology world, it’s that when it comes to mobile phones Apple dominates the innovation cycle and everyone else falls in line. That’s why all of the major players in the industry were waiting to see what Apple was going to do with its next generation of devices. It turns out there will be a lot of new features ranging from reduced bezels to augmented reality capabilities (after all, there will be several new Apple models, including the $999 iPhone X), but one of the key areas where we were all awaiting for a breakthrough was in the area of 3D facial recognition.

As it turns out, there’s a lot less here than mobile gurus were expecting. It’s safe to say that the new Face ID feature is a bit underwhelming – which is great news for other handset manufacturers who may be able to capitalize on what appears to a rare misstep by Apple.

So what’s wrong with Face ID? And why is SensibleVision poised to help other handset makers actually surpass – rather than just keep up with – Apple? Let’s look at a few things. For starters, its “one in a million” sounds impressive compared to 1 in 50,000 of TouchID.  SensibleVision’s solution is more than 20 times as accurate as what Apple is promising.

Not only is the accuracy much better than what Apple is offering, but it also provides some other critical benefits:

- Apple touts its solution in low-light situations, whereas most people use phones in public places, near windows, and other places with high light levels. Success outdoors or direct sunlight were curiously missing from Apple’s announcement. Bright light is the bane of many 3D solutions.  SensibleVision works in all light situations, from a dark room to broad daylight.

- Apple is relying on a “snapshot” approach that identifies users once, but it offers no way to continuously verify them. This is the “killer experience” that protects phones all the time. SensibleVision’s 6x-patented technology has been doing that for over a decade…Apple doesn’t seem to be there yet.

- SensibleVision offers much better security than Apple because it automatically integrates with patented Simultaneous Multi-Factor Authentication protocols that comply with industry-recommended best practices in just 1-2 seconds.

SensibleVision authentication is truly invisible to users, creating a much more refined user experience than what Apple is offering. Hand your phone to a friend and he or she can check the weather or view pictures…but never access your email or the apps you individually protect with your face.

Make no mistake: the iPhone X is a great phone that will change the rules for mobile. But when it comes to fast and transparent 3D-based security, Apple just may find itself playing catch up.
