Sensible Vision’s Biometric Facial Recognition Delivers Better Productivity and Continuous Data Protection for Physicians

FastAccess Speeds Login and Automates Access to Key Healthcare Applications with Instant Desktop Switching, Single Sign-On and Entrance Sensors/Integration

HIMSS, NEW ORLEANS, LA, February 26, 2007 – Sensible Vision, the innovator of continuous access authentication, is enabling physicians and healthcare professionals to achieve better productivity and automatic data protection using its FastAccess™ biometric facial recognition software. FastAccess is being demonstrated this week at the HIMSS show, February 25-March 1, 2007, New Orleans Convention Center, Sensible Vision Booth #817 as well as with GE Healthcare,Booth #243 and Healthcast Booth #7447.

“We are very excited to be returning to HIMSS this year after FastAccess received unanimous praise last year as a truly unique solution that fills a critical gap between security and productivity for healthcare professionals,” said George Brostoff, CEO of Sensible Vision. “This year we will be demonstrating some of our integration capabilities with GE Healthcare’s PACS systems and Healthcast’s Single-Sign-On solutions.”

FastAccess replaces a user password with their face, giving healthcare professionals a simple, hands-free way of securely accessing sensitive healthcare records. Using patent-pending FastAccess software and an off-the-shelf web camera, FastAccess quickly grants a user access to the computer, typically much faster than they could enter a password. When the user steps away the computer is promptly secured preventing unauthorized access. This occurs quickly and transparently, eliminating the time-consuming process of constantly entering login passwords and dramatically improving healthcare staff productivity. Additionally, FastAccess facilitates automatic adherence to privacy policies and regulations promulgated by HIPAA and JCAHO.

FastAccess is the first solution that cost effectively combines workflow optimization and strong authentication as required by healthcare institutions. FastAccess features key capabilities that are business critical for healthcare settings including:

  • Instant Desktop Switching (IDS): Ideal for shared workstation environments, IDS allows multiple users to quickly access their files and applications without typical login/logout delays. It prevents “tailgating” on shared computers and protects against unauthorized access to patient records.
  • Single Sign-On (SSO): This is ideal for combining the highest user convenience and transparent enforcement of security policies without slowing users down. FastAccess automates access to users’ network and applications with initial sign-on.
  • Patient Room Integration: Ideal for use in private offices and patient rooms, the Patient Room Integration further improves physician workflow by detecting a physician’s continued presence in the room. For example, a physician can walk into their exam room, close the door, authenticate biometrically, then move away from the computer during their exam and the computer stays unlocked. When the exam room door is opened the system immediately restarts continuous authentication and secures itself if the physician’s face is not seen.

FastAccess: The New Face of Computer Security

Unlike countless other security solutions, FastAccess is easy to use and deploy and requires no tedious enrollment procedures.

As healthcare providers struggle with staff productivity, quality care, and privacy compliance, there continues to be a dearth of effective solutions that secure protected information without adding costly and cumbersome procedures for both the user and IT staff. Password security is both difficult to enforce and ineffective in practice. Standard biometrics and tokens are expensive to implement. Tokens must be carried by the user while previous biometrics have proven inconvenient to use or unreliable. Advantages of FastAccess include:

  • No More Unsecured, Unattended Computers: Computers instantly secure themselves when users step away.
  • Better User Productivity: Users can focus on their jobs rather than time-consuming and frustrating processes of constantly entering passwords or other authentication procedures.
  • Improved Access Control and Auditing: Provides an accurate audit of computer and network access for business and regulatory compliance – a true audit log of who’s been at the computer and when.
  • Simple Setup and Administration: Unlike other security and biometric solutions, no special enrollment procedure is needed. Administrators can configure FastAccess locally or remotely through Microsoft's Active Directory
